Terms of Service
Last updated October 16, 2026
Draft. These terms haven’t been reviewed by a lawyer yet and aren’t final.
The short version
- You own what you publish. You let us host it and play it for the people you share it with.
- Only publish recordings you have the right to share.
- What you publish is public: anyone with the link can listen, and listen and like counts are visible.
- We can remove content that breaks these terms, and close accounts that keep breaking them.
1. Who we are
QuartzDrop is a service run by Made by Windmill, LLC (“we”, “us”). It lets people who use the Quartz app (“publishers”) publish recordings as albums and share a link, and lets anyone with that link (“listeners”) play them on quartzdrop.net. These terms cover publishing from the Quartz app, the QuartzDrop website, and the QuartzDrop API. By using QuartzDrop, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use QuartzDrop.
The Quartz app itself is also covered by the App Store’s terms. Where these terms talk about QuartzDrop, they apply in addition to those.
2. Accounts
- You need an account to publish. Listening doesn’t need an account.
- You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to that sign-in method safe. You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
- You choose a username. It appears on your published albums and on your profile page. Don’t pick one that impersonates someone else, infringes a trademark, or is offensive. We may change or reclaim a username that breaks these rules.
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you’re under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
- One person per account. Don’t create accounts to get around a suspension or a limit.
3. Your content
“Your content” means the audio, artwork, titles, artist names, dates, places, notes and other details you publish.
- You keep ownership. We don’t claim any ownership of your content.
- The license you give us. So that QuartzDrop can work, you give Made by Windmill, LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, encode, host, stream, display and make your content available for download (when you turn downloads on). This covers the QuartzDrop website, the Quartz app and link previews. We use this license only to run and improve QuartzDrop. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we need for a short time to finish deleting them, or that we must keep by law.
- The license you give listeners. Listeners may play your content through QuartzDrop. If you turn on downloads for an album, they may download it for their own personal listening. That doesn’t give them any other rights to it.
- You promise that you own your content or have every permission needed to publish it this way. That includes permission from the performers, composers, venues and anyone else whose rights are involved, and the consent of people who can be heard and identified in the recording where the law requires it.
4. Publishing is public
Please understand how sharing works before you publish:
- Every album has its own link. Anyone who has the link can listen, without signing in. Links can be forwarded, so treat anything you publish as public.
- Your album’s page shows your username, and can link to your profile page. Your profile page at quartzdrop.net/u/username lists your published albums. You can hide your profile in the Quartz app. Your albums still play for anyone with their links.
- Listen counts and like counts are shown publicly on your albums.
- Album artwork, titles and details may appear in link previews when someone shares a link in a message or a post.
- Turning downloads off hides the Download button, but anyone who can play a recording may still be able to save it.
- When you delete an album or your account, its link stops working. We can’t pull back copies that listeners already saved.
5. Acceptable use
Don’t use QuartzDrop to publish or do any of the following:
- Content that infringes someone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights. That includes commercially released recordings or bootlegs you don’t have the rights to.
- Content that’s illegal, or that promotes illegal activity.
- Content that sexually exploits or endangers children, in any form. We report this to the authorities.
- Harassment, threats, hate speech, or content meant to intimidate or shame someone.
- Sexually explicit content, or graphic violence.
- Recordings of people made without consent where consent is required by law, or private information about other people.
- Malware, spam, or misleading content, including impersonation.
- Using QuartzDrop as general file storage or a content delivery network for other sites.
- Getting around storage or rate limits, inflating listen or like counts, scraping, or interfering with the service or other people’s use of it.
- Accessing QuartzDrop other than through the Quartz app or the website, or trying to break or probe its security, unless we’ve agreed in writing.
6. Reports, takedowns and account termination
- Anyone can report a recording with the “Report this recording” link on its page. For copyright claims, see our Copyright Policy.
- We may remove or disable access to any content that we believe breaks these terms or the law, or that’s the subject of a valid copyright notice. We may do this without notice. When we remove an album, its link shows that it was removed.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, especially for repeated or serious violations. That includes repeat copyright infringement, as described in the Copyright Policy.
- If you think we made a mistake, write to us at quartz@madebywindmill.com.
- We’re not obliged to monitor content, and we don’t review albums before they’re published.
7. Deleting your content or account
You can delete any album, or your whole QuartzDrop account, at any time in the Quartz app. Deleting your account removes your published albums and stops their links from working. Our Privacy Policy explains what we delete and when.
We may change, limit or stop QuartzDrop, in whole or in part. If we decide to shut it down, we’ll try to give publishers reasonable notice first.
8. Limits and the service
We may set limits on things like storage, recording length and how often you can publish. The Quartz app shows your storage use. QuartzDrop isn’t a backup service. Keep your own copies of your recordings.
9. No warranty
QuartzDrop is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We don’t promise that QuartzDrop will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that content won’t be lost.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Made by Windmill, LLC won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of QuartzDrop. Our total liability for any claim about QuartzDrop is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for QuartzDrop in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50.
Some places don’t allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.
11. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of content you published or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, including legal fees, to the extent the law allows.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top when we do. If a change is significant, we’ll let publishers know in the Quartz app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using QuartzDrop after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
